Cottage Garden Hydrangea Mother's Day Card






I hope you have been enjoying the Cottage Garden Hydrangea Collection as much as I have.  I think the blue and white colors are just the perfect crisp colors for a Mother's Day Card.  This one is really simple and you can embellish as much or as little as you like.

To begin you will take a piece of patterned paper of your choice from the Cottage Garden Collection.  I cut this piece at 11" x 4 1/2" and score on the long side at 2 3/4" and again at 5 1/2".  This gives you the base for your card.

Cut another strip from the same paper at 1 1/2" x 11" and score the same, 2 3/4" and again at 5 1/2"  That is it for your base card! Use your bone folder to crease and you have made the base.  To mat these pieces I cut two pieces of 4 1/4" x 2 1/2" for the short mat pieces and one piece at 4 1/4" x 5 1/4" for the back.

Mat the strip with two pieces 1 1/4" x 5 1/4".  Glue the mat onto the strip.  The one on the back half I just scored in half and glued it to the strip.

Flip the strip over and apply Scor-Pal tape to the back.  Apply the strip to the back and to the front.  I keep everything folded and determine where I want my strip to be and stick it down.  You do not have to have it all the way to the bottom.  You can apply it more toward the middle if you want.

I cut two corner pieces from the Fleur Borders and Pockets and applied them to the top left and right corners.  I then cut a circle from the Butterfly Kisses Decorative Die which will be the base for your small hydrangea.  I like to use a little Sky Blue Ink and "shuck" the edges with the sponge daubers.

Now you can stamp the spray of hydrangeas from the Cottage Window & Hydrangea Stamp Set in Memento Tuxedo Black.  Color your images with Archival Ink in Fern Green, Vivid Chartreuse and Sky Blue.  Cut out your image using the Cottage Window & Hydrangea Die Set. Use some pop dots to attach the spray to the middle of the back frame of the card.

I cut out the Happy Mother's Day image using the Ornamental Tags Die Set.  I also glued a small gold bow to the top of the ornament and arranged stamped leaves and three small hydrangea blossoms to mimic the hydrangea blossom on the front of the card.

Stamp out your 3 1/4" x 4" hydrangea onto white Deluxe Flower Shaping Paper using Ranger Archival Ink in Fern green.  I like to use the Ranger Archival Ink in Vivid Chartreuse and lightly color the center of the leaves and the stems. I also cut out one extra set of the leaves in both the 3 1/4" size and the 2 x 2" size.

 I stamp and cut out 4 sets of the small blossoms which give you about 28 flowers in Ranger Archival Ink French Ultramarine.  After stamping out the blossoms I use the Vivid Chartreuse to color the center of the blossoms .  Then I cut out all the stamped images using the coordinating dies. 

After I cut out the images and like to use Sky Blue ink and go just around the edges front and back of the blossoms.

At this point I put the blossoms in the 3-D Hydrangea Shaping Mold.  I put three layers of blossoms and lightly spritz with water before running them through my die cutting machine.

The blossoms are shaped for you and you can apply Ribbit Prills to the centers or stamens of your choosing.

I cut two circles from white cards-stock in 2" and 1" and use pop dots to apply them to the head of the hydrangea.  This will give you height and lift to your design.  Apply your hydrangea blossoms with hot glue and tightly pack them in going around until the flower is full and rounded.  Attach your hydrangea to your circle from the Butterfly Kisses Circle with pop dots.  I applied the flower to the front of the card using pop dots and hot glue.  I then added just a couple more leaves to give it some more fullness.

You can apply a small ribbon bow to the base of your hydrangea blossom if you like and your card is done!

You can apply glitter or accents such as Wink of Stella

Creating Classic Roses

I have been asked to demonstrate how I make my Classic Roses.   They are really pretty simple.  I start with the Classic Rose Die from Heartfelt Creations, the Deluxe Flower Shaping Paper, the Golf Tools and some Ink. You can get all of these items on the Heartfelt Creations web page.  I like to use hot glue but I have made many of them with the Designer Dries Clear Glue too! I prefer this Deluxe Flower Shaping Paper because it is very heavy and stands up to all the shaping it takes without falling apart.  It also keeps a nice sturdy flower shape indefinitely.   I die cut out four of the same size petal shapes.  (The one pictured here is the next to the largest size.)  I use ink to "shuck" the edges with a sponge dauber and color the inside with a soft makeup brush.   I use the Golf Tool Shaping set from HC exclusively for shaping these roses.  I poke a hole in the center of each of the four flower petal groups, with the Golf Tool. Moonlight Roses

Here is a card I made for a special birthday.  It was really very simple using the Heartfelt Creations Rounded Lattice Window Die and Classic Roses. This was actually my first card for 2020 and one of my first attempts using foam for the roses.  I hope that you will find this card inspiring. Begin by using the 6"x6"Shutter Fold Card in White.  You will need to cut two 6" circles in the paper of your choice using the outer circle die from the Rounded Sunlight Window Die Set.  I used this beautiful blue plaid paper from the Buttons and Blooms Paper Collection. I then cut the two circles in half, giving you four half circle pieces to cover the two front half circles on the card. Find a pattern of the coordinating paper that you like and cut a 6x6" square for the back opening of the card.
